What To Expect

Let's be honest...

It can be a little unnerving stepping into a new thing, especially when you’re not sure about the details that might matter to you. Here's a quick Q&A about our church that'll give you a picture of what Flushing Alliance looks like week to week:

  • What if I'm not used to "church?"

    • We welcome anyone that's curious about God - even those who have never felt comfortable in church. Flushing Alliance is place you can learn about the Christian faith and wrestle with the big questions of who God is and what He wants for you. Bring your curiosity and questions and stop in to see us!
  • What are our services like?

    • We're not a church built on production and show. We believe that Jesus is enough. Here’s what you can expect during a typical Sunday gathering:
      • Prayer: The word tells us that God dwells in unapproachable light (1 Timothy 6:16) but for those who are looking to Jesus, we're invited to approach anyway, and to do so with boldness and expectation (Hebrews 4:16; Matthew 7:7-11). We believe in taking advantage of that, so we'll pray together during our services, and if you'd like to have someone pray for you, any of our elders would be honored to as we close our time – you’ll find them up front, waiting to minister to you.
      • Singing: Our praise band will lead us in song throughout our service. We try to balance contemporary music with the great hymns of our faith. It's okay if you don't know the words: they'll be projected on a screen at the front. It's okay if you don't think you have an amazing voice: we're not here to perform!
      • Preaching: The Bible is central to everything we do. Each week, Pastor Nathan brings a message that is helpful and challenging from the pages of Scripture.
      • Communion: At Flushing Alliance, we come to the Lord's table on the first Sunday of each month. We welcome all who are actively trusting in the finished work of Jesus for salvation to join us in remembering His sacrifice for sins by partaking of the bread and the cup with us.
      • Giving: While we welcome your generosity as the Lord leads, if you're our guest, please don't feel any obligation to support us financially.
  • What should I wear?

    • Jesus gave us His own righteousness to wear, but He didn't give His church a dress code, and at Flushing Alliance, you’re welcome to come as you are, whether that's wearing a tie or tattoos. The Lord doesn't judge on outward appearances; He's looking at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7).
  • What about my kids?

    • We believe children are a blessing from God and a vital part of the local church. We welcome them to join us in worship and don't mind the noise (our lead pastor has a 3-year-old and a newborn)! A staffed nursery is also available for children under the age of 4 and we offer a Junior Chruch program for children 5+ during the sermon time for an age-appropriate message each week.
